The M4 is more of an iconic battle proven shotgun but really only has a self defense role in my eyes. The 1301 comp pro can do everything, sporting clays, general range fun and is light and nimble enough to play a self defense role if need be. Both will serve you well but the 1301 comp pro is the best do it all shotgun from my experience. Personal Preference: The choice between the Beretta 1301 Tactical and Benelli M4 Tactical may also come down to personal preference, handling characteristics, and individual shooting style.
